A great coat in every sense, this piece is inspired by the sturdy, reliable, but gentlemanly outerwear worn by British officers. Todd wanted to honor the full cut of the originals — the 10-button, double-breasted silhouette features an open pleat down the back for easy movement (and a belt to cinch things back in). It’s made entirely from felted wool, which is durable, warm and naturally water-resistant; the classic officer’s coat was issued to protect its wearer from inclement weather right up until the end of the 20th century. The long-hair shearling collar is fully removable — keep it on and button things all the way up for extra warmth. Additional details include flap pockets, applied cuffs, and a half-lined interior in camo Bemberg.
This piece is part of a collaboration between Todd Snyder and Private White V.C., one of England’s most venerable outfitters and beloved by royalty, rock stars, athletes and actors alike. They handcraft every garment in Manchester’s last remaining clothing factory, a red-bricked building on the banks of the River Irwell, where they’ve been based since 1853.
